«Racism is ploughing through Germany. The insanity has mutated into a new form of crucial narration by now […] the spectre of Germany as a ‹regime nation›», writes Philipp Ruch in his »instructions for uncompromising democrats», published last year under the title «No More Patience». Our society has long moved past the point of being able to lean back and rely on a robust German democracy to fend off its enemies. The Corona crisis with its xcesses of conspiracy theorists and virus deniers has added to the aggravation of the situation. In these deeply unsettling times, everyone must voice their condemnation of racism and anti-Semitism – loudly!
One artists’ collective has been doing this for years, polarising opinion, controversially, but no doubt also successfully: the CENTRE FOR POLITICAL BEAUTY under its director Philipp Ruch. Following his – again, controversial – discourse project «The Reef of History» at the last year’s KUNSTFEST WEIMAR, Ruch returns to Thuringia for an opinionated tellingoff regarding the «Thuringian circumstances», widely discussed well beyond Germany. This time, his lecture performance is not about enlightening the dark neonazi corners but about fighting to repel the Right. «How do I tell my right-wing neighbour?»
who vehemently defends the opinions dominating the local pub?
The lecture Ruch is preparing for Weimar seeks to combine established and as yet unreleased ideas and videos by the performance artist with a wholly subjective take on the Corona crisis and «Thuringian circumstances», while also sketching a scenario for the year 2025.
