»I don't see climate change around here...«
A ClimateCheck invitation – on a local and a global level
Is the sea eroding entire coastlines? Is Europe suffering from hunger due to droughts destroying harvests and the lack of feed for cattle? The consequences of climate change still seem far removed from central Europeans. We're struggling to picture the catastrophic effects forecast by climate scientists that are already palpable elsewhere around the globe as having a real impact on our own lives. The WEIMAR KUNSTFEST's ClimateCheck joins up global and local perspectives – the world and Thuringia enter into a dialogue. Climate and theatre experts debate how the already existing, but mostly still invisible, consequences are also evident on our own doorstep (extinction of species, droughts, etc.) and how theatrical narratives can draw upon people's emotions to sensitise them to the issue of climate protection. However, apart from looking at the condition of the Thuringian Forest or declining insect populations on local fields, there will also be time for »concrete utopias«. Do we have a plan?
